Chicago Medical-Legal Partnership for Children
 
 
 
One of the first medical-legal partnerships (“MLPs”) in the nation, the Chicago Medical-Legal Partnership for Children is a program at Legal Council for Health Justice which brings together doctors, lawyers, and social workers to tackle social and economic difficulties—such as poor housing conditions, lack of health insurance, or inadequate educational supports—that negatively impact child health and development. By drawing on the strengths of these powerful professions, we help families with children who have complex medical needs to access healthcare, mental health services, special education, developmental services, income supports, and healthy housing. In collaboration with hospitals and health systems, we: • Provide free, comprehensive legal services to low-income children and their families in the medical home setting. • Provide trainings, resources, and technical assistance to medical and social service providers on the full range of health care programs and services that benefit patients. • Conduct systemic advocacy to improve access to health care and reduce barriers to support programs for low-income children and their families.

Member Duties : The Healthy Futures VISTA will conduct research and analysis on policies and systems to better identify and provide services to children with chronic, disabling, and stigmatizing health conditions; partner with our collaborators in public health to develop and disseminate information that builds a culture of health; explore ways to make Illinois child health data more transparent; and help us tell our story.
