** MTCC ExplorationWorks -Summer STEM Programs

ExplorationWorks Science Center in Helena, MT is an innovative, hands-on facility for educational opportunities. The Center works in partnership with public schools and is available for students of all ages and from varied backgrounds. ExplorationWorks offers programs and exhibits that appeal to diverse audiences in an engaging discovery of the sciences, technology, engineering, math, social sciences, culture and everyday life. The goal of the summer program is to help prevent summer learning loss in 200 low income youth and also to inspire these youth to STEM careers. The poverty level (as reported in 2015) in Helena, MT is 24% with 27.7% of that population being children under the age of 15. The Helena community has seven total title-one schools, six elementary schools, one middle school, and these students would benefit greatly from increased access to STEM programming through partnerships with No Kid Hungry and SACC, along with other community partners. The best way to increase student engagement in STEM fields as they mature and decide on a career path that will ultimately bring them out of poverty is to provide an early start to STEM education and continuing education for all ages.
