Northside Fresh Engagement Coordinator- AFC- C3TC

Appetite For Change (AFC) is a food justice social enterprise using food as a tool to build health, wealth and social change. AFC's first Community Cooks in 2012 was a community-based participatory learning process with community-led cooking workshops. More than 250 youth & adults told AFC they wanted more urban farms, access to local foods, “real food” options and opportunities to cook, eat and connect with community. AFC actively works towards a more just local food system through operating Breaking Bread Cafe, managing several community garden plots, engaging youth through their employment program, continuing their Community Cooks classes, & housing Northside Fresh Coalition. Northside Fresh Coalition is a community for those involved in any part of the Northside's food system (food shelves, growers, retailers, youth programs, value-added product producers, caterers, farm-to-school programs, composters, etc.) to network, learn about opportunities to collaborate, access resources, & much more. The Coalition works to activate the northside around food justice-related issues & bring awareness to the deep impact of civic engagement. The VISTA will help increase AFC capacity to lead the Northside Fresh Coalition & build food-based community wealth in North Minneapolis. Bringing partners to the Coalition provides access to opportunities such as grant funding, physical/skills-based resources, mutually beneficial projects seeded in cooperative economics, and more. Connecting individuals to these resources provides opportunities to build wealth & create broader systems and environmental change on the Northside. *This position is part of the C3 Twin Cities VISTA Program. C3 Twin Cities offers a unique cohort experience rooted in a social justice framework. It also offers $700 of monthly housing support, transportation support & professional development opportunities.
