Community Wealth Building Program Coordinator-HAFA- C3TC

The Hmong American Farmers Association (HAFA) is a membership-based nonprofit organization that works to support Hmong American farmers in the Twin Cities & the surrounding metropolitan areas. The mission of the organization is to advance the economic, social & cultural prosperity of these farmers & their families. Many Hmong farmers face numerous obstacles to farming, including lack of access to land, capital, trainings & alternative markets besides the farmers’ markets. Through cooperative farming, education & advocacy, HAFA works with Hmong farmers to create a path to wealth creation, not just income generation. HAFA was founded by & for Hmong American farmers to build economic & social power and uses an organizing approach to do its work. HAFA’s work is grounded in strong community economic development principles & based around its comprehensive model— the Whole Food Model—which acknowledges that all aspects of the food & farming system must be focused on simultaneously to truly build intergenerational and community wealth. HAFA will ensure that the VISTA projects and achievements will last beyond the years by continuously fostering & improving the food systems in the Twin Cities. One outcome of participation in the social enterprise cooperative is creating jobs for local residents. We will focus on intergenerational wealth so not only will the project expand jobs, but it will allow workers to have equity in the business which will increase their total family net worth. Participation in the cooperative will enable the community members to feel empowered and reinforce their voices & impact in the community by engaging them in advocacy. **This position is part of the C3 Twin Cities VISTA Program. C3 Twin Cities offers a unique cohort experience rooted in a social justice framework. It also offers up to $1,000 of monthly housing support, transportation support and professional development opportunities. Check out www.c3twincities.org for more details.
