Barnstable County AmeriCorps Cape Cod - General Corps

For more information and additional (required) application materials visit our website at www.americorpscapecod.org. Established in 1999, AmeriCorps Cape Cod is an eleven month, full-time residential service program dedicated to addressing the critical environmental and disaster preparedness and response needs on Cape Cod. Corps members focus their service on natural resource management, disaster preparedness and response, environmental education, and volunteer engagement. Members are on-call to respond to natural and environmental disasters within Barnstable County. Corps members live together in one of three program-provided residences. Throughout a service week, members complete service with housemates on group service projects, as well as work independently on long-term projects at an individual placement. Members are consistently in the community reaching out to volunteers, elected officials, and students. Members may plan large-scale community volunteer events as well as educational lesson plans for classrooms. Members collaborate with a variety of service partners focusing on environmental stewardship and disaster preparedness and response. Service partners include Barnstable County, the Cape Cod National Seashore, the American Red Cross, municipal Shellfish Departments, the Army Corps of Engineers, municipal Tree Wardens, Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, conservation trusts, local schools etc. Barnstable County AmeriCorps Cape Cod is EOE committed to the inclusion of people with disabilities as members. ACC provides reasonable accommodations for the application process, interviews and service upon request.

Member Duties : Members complete projects as assigned as well as develop and implement projects of their own. Upon entering the program, each Corps member participates in an extensive multi-week orientation/training session. Each week, Mondays and Fridays: group service projects. These projects tend to be labor based and can vary in size and scope. Midweek: individual placement days and time dedicated to Community Outreach and Development (COD). Individual placements allow members the opportunity to serve independently with service partner organizations. Projects are long term and more in-depth. The focus of COD Day is to provide time for the program’s education and outreach initiatives. Members perform environmental and disaster-related education presentations and coordinate volunteer projects and events. Periodic Saturdays are also used to engage the community in service. Members are on-call to respond to environmental and natural disasters like marine mammal stranding and regional shelter openings.
