Free Clinics -- Otterbein University Summer VISTA
 
 
 
The Center for Community Engagement at Otterbein University is seeking Summer Associates to work with the Otterbein Community Garden to meet the food security needs of low-income residents. The purpose of the Otterbein Community Garden is to enrich the Westerville community by providing hunger relief for those in-need through coordination with local pantries; an innovative study, research, and education site; a living landscape to bring together and inter-generational team; and an environmental gateway to sustainability initiatives. As part of our program, Summer Associates will work at the garden to increase our ability to serve low-income residents by developing trainings, programs, and partnership,s and donating produce to local pantries.

Member Duties : Summer Associates will help provide nutritious food for low-income residents by working at the Otterbein Community Garden to plant, compost, water, weed, and harvest produce for transport to local pantries and meal sites. The Summer Associates will also work to develop and plan enrichment activities for local summer nutrition and food service programs, including establishing free farmer's markets at the sites to distribute produce from the Garden. Summer Associates will help expand our reach by developing, tracking, and evaluating new partnerships for the garden and planning educational workshops for our new partners. Summer Associates will also recruit and train new garden volunteers and create a handbook to explain best practices for gardening and working with low-income residents.
