Supports to Encourage Low-Income Families VISTA

Supports to Encourage Low-Income Families (SELF) is a Butler County, Ohio nonprofit whose mission is to enhance the quality of life for low-income residents by impacting the causes of poverty and empowering individuals to achieve, sustain and advocate self-sufficiency. SELF’s Home Repair Initiatives work together, hand-in-hand to help lift people out of poverty through free home repairs, construction training for at –risk young adults and a new social enterprise program that renovates homes, provides affordable housing, and re-invest profits into SELF’s housing initiatives. SELF is seeking a VISTA who can help us expand the Neighbors Who Care: Renovations social enterprise project, help us grow our Build-up Academy construction training program so that we can host 2 sessions of 12 to 18 students per year and support the Neighbors Who Care: Home Repair project as needed. A VISTA member will help SELF grow in capacity and with sustainability planning by going after new funding sources, finding new ways to recruit clients, finding new members of the community to be a part of our advisory board, find more skilled volunteers and develop a list of sub-contractors who are willing to do work for reduced prices. The goal is to double our capacity in the upcoming year and successfully transfer the new projects over to SELF staff.
