StarkFresh VISTA

Northeast Canton was a robust city with a rich ethnic heritage and abundant resources. The national trends of decreased manufacturing and exodus to the suburbs has nearly gutted the area. The citizens are determined to overcome the disinvestment and create a community of choice where people select to live, work, and invest. This attitude of self-reliance has drawn attention to the local issue of food insecurity and limited access to fresh, healthy foods. These same citizens, working closely with StarkFresh, have determined to face the issue head on and have allowed StarkFresh to be their vehicle of change. The VISTA project is to help lead this community initiative, along with volunteers and partners, to the goal of increasing access to fresh, healthy food. Especially, for those living with a low to moderate income. Further, the goal of the VISTA project is to increase the capacity of StarkFresh, partner organizations and citizens to increase access to fresh, healthy food and to enable StarkFresh to thrive as a recognized leader in combating food insecurity. Ultimately, the VISTA project is to position StarkFresh as the premier entity for addressing community needs surrounding access to fresh, healthy, and locally sourced foods.
