Slavic Village Development VISTA

As a progressive development corporation we provide numerous services including: management of 400+ affordable housing units; Code Enforcement; community building/ organizing; Leadership Development; Active / Healthy Living Initiatives including community gardens, farmers market, biking, and park programming; Housing Rehabilitation and New Construction; Home Repair & Paint; Storefront Renovation; Industrial Retention; Business Development, Economic development and opportunity; and lastly youth programming. Specific to this project, our VISTA will work with residents on the creation of a Maker District to improve and enhance a highly visible currently vacant intersection. This innovative initiative would be Cleveland’s first attempt at centralizing makers in an entire district rather than just one building at a time. Through this development, job skills and job training for our residents will be another focus: teaching our residents technical and creative skills is a part of this comprehensive strategy. (For example our new maker tenants would conduct coding classes or wood working skills and then we would direct those individuals to our large manufacturing base). If connections are not made there, we will work with our employment specific partners to improve our residents’ job opportunities. Our VISTA will also recruit, market, and fundraise to assist our growing number of community gardens and newly designed farmer’s market. These initiatives will improve access to fresh, local, and healthy foods while also saving our residents’ money and improving the overall health of our community.
