Rural Action VISTA

The VISTA will focus on business development coordination and support for regional food hubs and food businesses currently affiliated with Rural Action. Over the last decade of working with farming communities in southeast Ohio and coordinating a rural food hub in Chesterhill, Rural Action has focused on developing businesses that support the production and access to these local products. This sustainable food business VISTA will assist with food business creation, expansion and branding in Rural Action targeted locations along with the assistance of partners; these businesses will support the growing Chesterhill and Nelsonville food hubs. The VISTA will work with growers and community advisory board members at the Chesterhill Produce Auction to create business and transition plans for the auction. The VISTA will also support the development of food businesses in Athens, Morgan and surrounding counties. Businesses to support include value added producers, resellers, distributors, and restaurants. The VISTA will also coordinate new and ongoing Rural Action educational tracts including marketing, volunteer recruitment, and management. The VISTA will also support grant writing and business plan writing for all projects.
