Live Healthy Appalachia VISTA

Formed in 2010, Live Healthy Appalachia (LHA) is an Athens, Ohio-based nonprofit organization which aims to promote health and wellbeing in our Appalachian region through outreach, education, and advocacy emphasizing nutrition and physical activity. Our programs include Live Healthy Kids; adult education programs including Cooking Coaches, My First 5K, and the Complete Health Improvement Program; and professional development opportunities including the Appalachian Health Summit and worksite wellness activities. LHA’s programs support the idea that good health is a right, not a privilege. Many of our workshops are centered in low-wealth communities and occur in partnership with agencies with strong and long-standing anti-poverty missions. The VISTA member at Live Healthy Appalachia will focus on expanding organizational capacity through enhancing volunteer systems, implementing innovative marketing strategies, diversifying and increasing funding streams, and seeking out new partnerships.

Member Duties : The VISTA at Live Healthy Appalachia will support the organization’s mission to promote healthy eating and active living through educational programs and community partnerships. Successful candidates will have an interest in healthy eating and active living. LHA’s sub-site VISTA will work to increase the capacity of healthy living programs in Athens County and surrounding areas in Southeast Ohio through organizational capacity building. The VISTA will focus on the following goals during the service year: • Develop new volunteer engagement opportunities around healthy eating and active living, focusing on underserved populations. • Recruit, train, and support volunteers for LHA programs such as Live Healthy Kids and Cooking Coaches. • Finalize and implement a social media editorial calendar and strategy that will clearly communicate LHA’s mission, programs and events. • Connect with new partners to discover and propose collaborative solutions to address community health issues.
