Homes on the Hill CDC VISTA
Homes on the Hill is proposing a VISTA project which will assist the capacity building of our organization and the neighborhood we serve. The community outreach and development activities of this project will help HOTH to create public awareness in our organization, and increase our capacity to provide affordable housing, housing counseling, and will increase individual assets and food access in the area. Our VISTA member will improve our affordable housing efforts by delivering a neighborhood needs assessment to our community by meeting with community stakeholders and researching scenarios for implementing neighborhood revitalization efforts in the area. Our VISTA will assist our housing counseling department by focusing on grant and resource development, marketing and branding, and community outreach activities to improve the department’s capacity and efficiency. Our VISTA will assist in increasing individual assets in the community through engagement programs, such as LEAN (the Landlord Engagement Action Network), the Belvidere Healthy Living Garden, and our financial capability program. Within these community engagement programs, our VISTA’s key tasks will include performing demographic research, resource and grant development, and community outreach activities. Lastly, our VISTA will help increase access to fresh food in the area through assisting neighbors continue the stability for the second year operating the Belvidere Healthy Living Garden.

Member Duties : Homes on the Hill is a small nonprofit with 25 years of experience. We are searching for a VISTA member that will work on community outreach and resource development. The VISTA will become an advocate for Homes on the Hill at community meetings and educate neighbors about our programs and free supportive services. The VISTA will assist on projects that provide affordable housing, education, food access, marketing, and community relations. The VISTA’s main duties will include: community outreach, community organizing, event planning, program design, social media, researching, grant writing, and creating marketing material. The VISTA will have a unique opportunity to establish and build relationships with government agencies, nonprofits, community stakeholders, investors, and researchers. The VISTA will have freedom to use their creativity. After a successful service, our past VISTAs have been hired on or have found a job with community partners they met during their term.
