Homes on the Hill CDC VISTA

HOTH is proposing a VISTA project to build the capacity building of our organization and the neighborhood we serve. The VISTA activities of this project will include four OCDCA VISTA Project Goals and will help HOTH increase our capacity to provide affordable housing, housing counseling, financial capabilities programming, and increased individual assets and food access in the area. Our VISTA member will help us build the capacity of our new Affordable Housing Development Concept. Our new concept includes an option for low/moderate income families looking for affordable housing that they can renovate themselves using rehabilitation loans, and a custom rehabilitation component for low/moderate income families looking for homes already renovated to meet their preferences. Our VISTA will assist our housing counseling department by focusing on resource development, volunteer recruitment, and community outreach activities, and will also increase the capacity of our new Statewide LEAN (Landlord Engagement Action Network) program. To help us to increase and maintain assets for individuals, our VISTA will increase the capacity of our Financial Capabilities program, which helps low/moderate income families, and families making less than 200% of the federal poverty line, to create a sustainable household budget, review their credit profile, and create an action plan to reach financial sustainability. Lastly, our VISTA will help increase access to fresh food in the area by increasing the capacity of the Belvidere Healthy Living Garden.
