Economic & Community Development Institute VISTA-Columbus

The Economic & Community Development Institute (ECDI) is an Ohio-based 501(c)(3) non-profit economic development organization founded in 2004. As the third largest US SBA intermediary micro-lender and a US Treasury designated Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), ECDI's mission is to invest in people to create measurable and enduring social and economic change. At ECDI Columbus, our current training curriculum is being re-designed to better engage marginalized populations of entrepreneurs through more inclusive, effective, practical workshops on small business development, technical skills training, and more. The VISTA will focus on redesigning, implementing, and evaluating an evidence based training curriculum addressing the needs of Central Ohio’s small business owners. To accomplish this, the VISTA will work as an essential part of a highly skilled team, which includes the Director of Business Innovation and Training and ECDI Training Coordinator. The new, holistic curriculum will include one-on-one sessions, group workshops, and training series that work in tandem with ECDI’s microfinance lending program to offer Central Ohio residents access to both the funding to launch a new business, and the training necessary to make it a success. The VISTA’s work will increase ECDI’s capacity to address the population specific needs and barriers to self-employment of Columbus’ low-income community.
