Community Matters VISTA

The mission of Community Matters is to create a thriving and more just community by removing barriers to opportunity. We work with our neighbors to identify the barriers preventing our community from meeting its needs and then design programs to remove the identified barriers. Our model is to combine two key approaches to community development; 1) community programs to address immediate needs and 2) social entrepreneurship to help rebuild our local economy. Our VISTA project will help build the foundation for a major affordable housing project in Lower Price Hill. The goals of our VISTA project are as follows: help us expand our capacity to provide affordable housing, maintain and build assets for individuals through a renter equity program, and to increase access to economic opportunities in Lower Price Hill. Our project will utilize one VISTA member to address comprehensively the issues of housing and access to economic sustainability in our community. Our focus is not only to increase our organizational capacity, but to increase the capacity of our neighbors to create new opportunities in Lower Price Hill.
