Community Food Initiatives VISTA
 
 
 
Community Food Initiatives (CFI) is a 24 year-old membership-based grassroots organization serving families and individuals in Appalachia Ohio. The mission of CFI to ensure everyone has equal access to healthy, local food. CFI’s vision is a resilient region in which everyone in our community has access to an equitable, inclusive, and thriving local food system. CFI’s sub-site VISTA will assist in launching the SEO FOODLINK project, a citizen-based food access data hub for the ten counties served by the Southeast Ohio Food Bank & Kitchen. To improve CFI’s capacity and sustainability, the VISTA will assist the Executive Director in grant writing and develop program evaluation methodology and an evaluation database for all CFI programs. The VISTA will focus on the following during the project’s first year: - Convene community meetings and information sessions about SEO FOODLINK in all 10 Southeastern Ohio counties - Compile publically available data for FOODLINK, including from local and state governments and agencies, regional emergency food organizations, food retailers, and other groups and compile into database - Coordinate with CFI’s Community Engagement Coordinator and WV FOODLINK staff to design and launch SEO FOODLINK data hub online - Develop strategies for the sustainability of SEO FOODLINK including the coordination of an inaugural Nourishing Networks Workshop - Assist in grant writing to support community and youth gardens, seed programs, and Donation Station programming in neighboring counties - Research best practices for evaluation tools and databases, and coordinate with program staff to develop an evaluation database and implement its utilization.

Member Duties : The VISTA’s work will support the mission of CFI, to ensure everyone has equal access to healthy, local food.The VISTA will build organizational capacity and increase healthy food access with the development of the SEO FOODLINK. The VISTA will work with CFI’s Community Engagement Coordinator to convene community stakeholder meetings, collect surveys and other data, manage the database management system, and maintain relationships with stakeholder groups. Stakeholders will be recruited to participate in the mission of SEO FOODLINK, creating a healthy food access resource hub and learning commons to support a resilient food network in Southeast Ohio. In partnership with CFI staff, the VISTA will contribute to CFI’s capacity through grant research and writing and the design and implementation of program evaluation and a program evaluation database.
