Community Food Initiatives VISTA

Community Food Initiatives (CFI) is a 24 year-old membership-based grassroots organization serving families and individuals in Appalachia Ohio. The mission of CFI to ensure everyone has equal access to healthy, local food. CFI’s vision is a resilient region in which everyone in our community has access to an equitable, inclusive, and thriving local food system. CFI is the only organization in the area routinely donating thousands of pounds of local produce to food pantries, connecting regional seed savers to promote seed diversity and sustainability, managing low-cost community garden plots, supporting school gardens and teaching youth to grow food, and offering gardening and cooking workshops to adults. This work is driven by those we serve; the community members themselves. All of these programs come together to build a stronger community in which the citizens are empowered to grow and cook their own healthy, whole foods, in spite of poverty barriers. Community Food Initiatives’ Strategic Plan Coordinator VISTA will build the capacity of our primary program areas that increase healthy food access to low-income individuals. The VISTA will focus on the following during the project’s third year: - Reviewing the organization-wide strategic plan on a quarterly basis and detailing actions for each goal developed for 2017 and 2018. - Developing a strategy for marketing with the Board’s Public Relations Committee to better communicate CFI to targeted audiences. - Developing a strategy with the Board’s Fund Development Committee to increase monetary, in-kind donations, and other funding sources. - Provide support to CFI’s marketing interns and the Community Engagement Coordinator, ensuring they have detailed and attainable workplans. - Coordinating the development of a new staff position with Board’s Executive Committee and Executive Director. - Coordinate professional development and trainings for CFI’s staff to sustain and grow organizational capacity.
