OneStar: Hill Country Science Mill Summer Camp VISTAs

The Hill Country Science Mill began offering STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) summer camps for students entering grades 4-8 during the summer of 2015. Science Mill camps focus on inspiring students to see STEM as fun and relevant to their lives, and ultimately encourage students to see themselves in STEM careers. Daily activities include individual and team challenges and competitions, active problem solving, and hands-on engagement with cutting-edge technologies – all in an informal, fun environment! The Science Mill has a special focus on enrolling and serving students traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields, including low-income, minority, and first-generation students. The Science Mill strives to make camp available to all students and therefore provides tuition scholarships to a large percentage of our campers each summer. The Science Mill is seeking VISTA members to assist in the implementation of these programs for students around Austin, Johnson City, and San Antonio.
