MDCCC Men Achieving Dreams Through Education
 
 
 
The Men Achieving Dreams through Education: Changing Lives, Shaping Futures Project will provide life skills workshops, mentoring, tutoring and service learning projects for youth the Garland Hayward Youth Center’s (GHYC) afterschool program. The MADE project is comprised of a network of community organizations and University of Maryland Eastern Shore staff and students. The mission of the project is to promote a sense of purpose, pride and accomplishment for underserved male youth in Somerset County, Maryland.

Member Duties : The University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s MDCCC AmeriCorps VISTA member will coordinate the placement of UMES student volunteers at the Garland Hayward Youth Center for afterschool tutoring/mentoring; and facilitate leadership training sessions for student volunteers twice a semester. The MDCCC AmeriCorps VISTA will collaborate with UMES faculty, students, local schools, and GHYC staff on the development and instruction of enrichment programs; (K-12) civic engagement/service-learning projects; parent/community workshops and events; and professional development workshops for GHYC staff. The MDCCC AmeriCorps VISTA member will also leverage resources by building partnerships to improve the GHYC’s long term ability to implement diverse community programs and expand the use of the Center.
