MDCCC RYP ArtWork’s VISTA project

The MDCCC AmeriCorps ArtWorks VISTA project will allow participants to increase leadership skills through paid peer-teaching positions, receive career training through financial literacy and workforce development workshops, and reconnect to cultural and artistic traditions through art-making. The project will engage high-school aged refugees—specifically those who have large families and have been identified as high needs—by providing additional educational opportunities and part-time employment. Workshops and trainings will improve abilities to create a budget, manage and save money, and credit management. They will also increase interview skills, resume writing and job-searching skills. This project will mobilize the refugee community, encourage self-reliance, and help build a sense of purpose for the future. It will increase marketing and community outreach by sharing RYP’s story, creating personal connections, and fostering support for newcomers throughout the US. At the end of this project, the MDCCC AmeriCorps VISTA will produce a publication for other organizations interested in developing social enterprises to benefit newly arrived refugees across the US.
