MDCCC UMES Vet Connect
 
 
 
Modeling best practices of the Veterans Administration, the MDCCC AmeriCorps VISTA member, along with UMES students, and our community partners (the Somerset County Department of Social Services, Somerset County District Court, Eastern Shore Psychological Services) and other advocacy organizations, through outreach programs, state-wide collaborative efforts, strong community partnerships, will support the needs of veterans and their families, in the service area of Somerset County, Maryland. The UMES Vet-Connect Program, MDCCC AmeriCorps VISTA member will work to help ensure that all veterans and their families, have assistance in an integrated holistic approaches in coordinating benefits; to include: education, counseling, employment, financial literacy, housing referral, and health care that are available via state and federal VA programs. The Veterans Administration has long standing programs with marketable success that when modeled in this rural community, will enable us to direct efforts to veterans and their families in this county.

Member Duties : The University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s MDCCC AmeriCorps VISTA member will manage the day to day operations of the Center for Veteran and Military Affairs including the development and oversight of all major programs. Coordinates and facilitates the functions of the center. Overall responsible for the development and enhancement of services for veterans, service members, dependents and survivors. The MDCCC AmeriCorps VISTA member will also leverage resources by building partnerships to improve the veteran’s access to services to combat poverty and support familial access to assistance.
