College Health Corps, South Central College
South Central College provides higher education to thousands of students, primarily based in South Central Minnesota. Our enrollment includes 47% students who are considered Pell-Eligible (low-income students). Our employees strive to provide exceptional support for low-income students, and we identify great opportunity to provide consistent, standardized support for that population through increased coordination and partnership. With support of the counseling center, financial aid, the rest of the Student Affairs area, and the Southern Minnesota Center for Agriculture, the VISTA will provide a data-driven approach to serve the low-income community on campus. We are seeking a VISTA to address two key project areas. One is to lead a campus needs assessment helping us understand 1) how we can provide better, sustainable support to low-income students, and 2) what student basic needs are not being met. Following the needs assessment, the VISTA will develop a resource and support center staffed by Pell eligible work study students with the intent to serve low-income students on campus. The second project is to develop a 1-acre community garden, in collaboration with the Minnesota Center for Agriculture, providing fresh and healthy food access to low-income students. ---This project is part of the College Health Corps (CHC) VISTA Program, operated by Minnesota Campus Compact. The CHC increases low-income individuals’ access to health care, health education, food, and basic needs through capacity building projects, including partnerships between higher education and community based organizations. Professional development focuses on health equity, the social determinants of health, and effective partnership development. --- ***Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Preference given to candidates who apply early. Candidates must also email a resume and cover letter.***
