Campus District VISTA

The goal of the Campus District VISTA Project is to have the newly formed Superior Arts Business Improvement District in downtown Cleveland create opportunities for low income people in two ways - through employment and the development of affordable housing. 1) Employment: First, the BID will hire Clean and Safe Ambassadors, which are entry-level positions, allowing neighborhood residents or previously homeless individuals who have gone through job training to gain employment. Second, the VISTA will identify job opportunities and training and apprenticeship programs within the Business Improvement District and connect local residents to those opportunities. Third, the District has a large number of unions located here – IronWorkers, Electrical Workers, Transit Employees, and Carpenters Union. The VISTA will engage the unions to become involved in this initiative. 2) Housing: The neighborhood has the potential for development of housing but previously the safety concerns in the area were a barrier to that. Now, with the formation of the BID to create a safer environment and with downtown development pressures, the goal of Campus District, Inc. is to get ahead of the oncoming market forces and work with key property owners to develop affordable and workforce housing.
