College Health Corps, Rochester Student Health Services

Rochester Students’ Health Services (RSHS) is an all-volunteer organization offering free health care to Rochester Alternative Learning Center (ALC) students and their children. The mission of RALC is to support viable educational options for students who are experiencing difficulty in any educational system and are at risk of educational failure. The goal of the clinic is to improve the overall health of the ALC students and their children by addressing acute health conditions, facilitating care of chronic conditions, improving health literacy, fostering student’s engagement in protective, health-enhancing behaviors and avoidance of risky behavior. Our goal is to empower students to be invested in their health along with improving graduation rates by reducing the number of school days lost due to health concerns. Integration of the clinic services with other school services into a coordinated school health program increases the effectiveness of all components and enhances the impact on the students’ health. A major goal would be to enhance a building-wide approach to health education, services, and activities, targeted to the needs of this unique population of students. ---This project is part of the College Health Corps (CHC) VISTA Program, operated by Minnesota Campus Compact. The CHC increases low-income individuals’ access to health care, health education, food, and basic needs through capacity building projects, including partnerships between higher education and community based organizations. Professional development focuses on health equity, the social determinants of health, and effective partnership development. --- ***Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Preference given to candidates who apply early. Candidates must also email a resume and cover letter.***
