Summer AmeriCorps Teaching Artist
 
 
 
Providence ¡CityArts! for Youth is seeking 18 creative individuals to serve as AmeriCorps members in our Turnaround Teaching Artist Project. AmeriCorps members must commit 300 hours of service between June 12th and August 12th, 2017. Members will lead STEAM and Design Thinking based projects at the CityArts Studios and Boys and Girls Club sites throughout Providence. Programming will focus on developing positive habits of engagement in youth to combat summer learning loss. Young artists will work collaboratively with their peers and teaching artists to gain skills in inquiry, leadership, reflection and creative problem solving. The AmeriCorps Turnaround Teaching Artist Project offers members an opportunity to strengthen their curriculum development and classroom management skills, while deepening problem solving and leadership abilities. Intensive skill development training plus weekly feedback and reflection sessions will support the member’s professional growth. Members will receive a $500 dollar stipend and a $1,221.96 education award with the completion of 300 hours of service.

Member Duties : AmeriCorps Turnaround Teaching Artists will work in teams of three to design and implement engaging 2-week summer projects based in the CityArts Design Thinking process. Daily tasks for members include: --Working independently and as a team to develop and implement project-based arts curriculum for CityArts Design Thinking programs. --Exploring how design, science, technology, engineering and math can be combined in project-based learning workshops to deepen problem solving and leadership abilities within CityArts youth ages 8-14. --Attending all training sessions. --Attending reflection sessions to support the member’s professional growth. --Mentoring students. --Collaborating with fellow teaching artists. --Collecting and documenting student work and progress using CityArts tools/instruments. --Submitting great stories and time sheet reports on a regular and timely basis.
