ShareCorps - Zepf Center - Summer Associate

We envision a Toledo where often marginalized youth become change agents in their own lives through sustainable food system work. We seek to broaden experiences, build communities, engage with families, and build protective factors for our youth, families, communities, and our environment. Zepf Center's Organic Nutrition Education program, "ZONE" teaches participants and their families principles of organic gardening healthy cooking, nutrition, and food storage in order to reduce food insecurity/increase food access while supporting peer mentor-ship, social, conflict resolution, and vocational skill development. We encourage our youth to actively engage in improving their lives and their communities through hands on community and environmental stewardship. Through these activities participants improve self-efficacy.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will lead a team of youth that are being paid to learn how to plant, grow, and care for nearly 3/4 acre of organic urban farmland. They will also work alongside these youth to administer a summer meals site and will partner with other local food system providers to fight food insecurity throughout Toledo. The Job Program Coordinator will learn good agricultural practices and then train youth in this. They will motivate and encourage youth in a positive way, coordinate with other partners (Toledo Food Hub, Food for Thought, Toledo GROWS, etc.) and work on other relevant tasks as needed.
