Community Outreach Associate AmeriCorps*VISTA

To design and implement systems and materials that will expand the outreach and community presence of Propeller, which will grow our funding and the number of social enterprises served impacting the social, environmental, and economic problems of New Orleans in the areas of educational equity, healthy food, healthcare, and water. In educational equity we focus our energy and resources on addressing a few key areas that directly impact the educational gap disproportionally affecting children in poverty: funding streams, improvement in attendance and suspension rates, and the growth of vocational programming. There is also a significant gap in healthy food accessibility that keeps people in poverty that we address through improving access and affordability of healthy foods. In the area of healthcare, we address the poverty gap in quality and quantity of services by focusing our energy and resources on five key areas: access and affordability, outreach and support, infrastructure development, workforce development, and physical activity. And in water we address the pressing problems in urban water management and coastal restoration that disproportionately affect impoverished neighborhoods, making them vulnerable to natural disasters. By closing the gaps in these four areas (educational equity, healthy food, healthcare, and water), we are working improve the lives and livelihoods and move people out of poverty.
