Northern Illinois Food Bank - Capacity Building - Geneva
 
 
 
Along with our 800 network members, including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, schools, youth and senior sites, the Food Bank provides nutritious food for 71,500 different individuals weekly across 13 counties. Our 7,000 square mile service area stretches our staff to adequately build awareness of the need for hunger relief and engage supporters in every corner. With the help of VISTA team members we will increase support to help us towards our strategic goal of providing 75 million meals by 2020 through volunteering and financial support.

Member Duties : The Capacity Building VISTA will work directly with five to ten food pantries during their year of service. The VISTA will use resources developed by previous VISTAs to work with new partners. He/she will start with a needs assessment of each pantry and through the assessment develop goals and a plan for potential improvements. Depending on the organization, this could be researching and writing grants for food and funds, engaging and retaining volunteers, developing strong and sustainable leadership boards, improving distribution or intake systems, and recommending enhanced client choice or upgrading technology. We are seeking applicants with a passion for helping the hungry, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently. Transportation and a willingness to travel throughout the assigned area are required. VISTAs will gain experience in working with a respected non-profit organization and build connections with the network of social services in the area.
