ASU- Mental Health Community Relations VISTA, WTGC

The Mental Health Community Relations VISTA (MHCRV) serves with West Texas Counseling & Guidance (WTCG) to reduce misunderstanding and stigmatizing of mental illness in the region. Depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and despair impacts relationships, physical health, school and work performance. WTCG serves over 2,500 clients providing over 11,000 sessions annually; 62% of the clients are low income. The recent Community Health Needs Assessment of the Poor and Extremely Poor in West Texas identified that area individuals living with low income and poverty do not believe that behavioral counseling services are affordable or available for them. The MHCRV will expand the reach of WTCG funding and service capacity in West Texas by increasing awareness among vulnerable populations and improving the organization’s donor relations. The successful candidate will be energetic and organized with a heart for serving individuals with mental health needs. They will be a great communicator, both verbally and in writing. Creativity, flexibility, and the ability to think outside the box will be a great asset to the team. Experience with social media and traditional marketing strategies is not required but would be beneficial. The MHCRV will be involved in all aspects of fundraising efforts, so experience with grant writing, fundraising, graphic design, event planning, or donor relations is a plus. San Angelo is a thriving community of 100,000 people and offers the comforts of a big city with an affordable cost of living and the friendliness of a small town.
