ShareCorps-The Potter's House-Food and Economic Coordinator
 
 
 
Potter's House started in 2004 with a food pantry serving 1740 clients the first year. Last year, we served over 30,000 clients with the following programs: food pantry, free tax and benefits services (SNAP, HEAP, help with electric, senior boxes, Christmas for foster children and a summer feeding program,) Our goal is to help seniors and families become self-sufficient and to decrease hunger problems in our communities. The Potter's House is a VISTA sub-site of the Ohio Association of Foodbanks ShareCorps program.

Member Duties : This project's goal is to help Scioto County's low income families become self-sufficient, food secure, healthier and raise awareness of hunger in our community. Assist in the development of alternative meal delivery options to ensure our rural/vulnerable neighbors do not go hungry. Research the top three most needed areas in the county for home deliveries. Help design route schedules for deliveries to maximize transportation resources, recruit volunteer drives to implement program. Assist with grant writing and fund development to expand to additional areas of the county. Vista will be working with area agencies, food bank, local farmers, and local businesses to increase healthier options in our food pantry. Create a resource guide for all community services working towards alleviating poverty. Assist the Potter's House in starting a community garden project.
