ShareCorps- United Way of Hancock Co.

United Way of Hancock County's mission is to measurably improve people's lives in Hancock County. This is done through fundraising for grant distribution to local nonprofits whose outcomes align with one or more of the following UWHC impact areas and its correlating vision: 1) Education- help children and youth achieve their potential, 2) Income- promote financial stability and independence, 3) Health- improve people's health, 4)Hunger- create a food secure community. UWHC also acts as a convener and collaborator challenging the community to explore system change and cross-sector solutions to poverty. This VISTA opportunity is in alignment with UWHC's initiative and community collaborative known as the Halt Hunger Initiative (HHI). HHI desires to research, identify, implement, and promote long-term sustainable solutions to hunger in Hancock County. HHI understand food insecurity is often tied to poverty as well as other complex issues unique to each community. HHI intends to use this VISTA opportunity to establish food recovery programs that will provide more fresh produce and food pantries and eliminate surplus food waste. *UWHC is a VISTA sub-site of the Ohio Association of Foodbanks, ShareCorps program.
