ShareCorps-Community Development for All People

Community Development for All People has built deep relationships with the South Side of Columbus, Ohio, since 1999. Our vision is for a whole, healthy, and engaged community where All People are empowered to pursue their hopes, dreams, and aspirations. Our Free Store serves 25,000+ people and gives away over $2 million in donated items each year. In the last decade, over $50 million of housing rebuilds and renovations have taken place. CD4AP empowers families through after-school, Freedom School, and parent engagement programs. In order to improve the health of people and place, CD4AP launched the Healthy Eating and Living (HEAL) initiative in 2013, opened Bikes for All People and developed the First Birthdays infant mortality initiative in 2014, and created the Neighborhood Leadership Academy in 2015. Through the efforts of the VISTA worker, we will increase access to fresh food. create individualized and comprehensive nutrition education curriculum, and create a program for the recruiting, training, and equipping of volunteers. Community Development for All People is a VISTA sub-site of the Ohio Association of Foodbanks ShareCorps program.

Member Duties : Through the efforts of the VISTA member, we will increase access to fresh food through a more intentional connection with existing internal programming and greater community outreach. Additionally, the member will create individualized and comprehensive nutrition education curriculum that will be used in existing classes and through new small groups. Building upon our community-based model, the VISTA will create a program for the recruiting, training, and equipping of volunteers that are essential to the implementation of the HEAL initiative. The outcome of this work will be to increase food security in a food insecure community, to empower people to make their own healthy choices through education, and to create greater connection to people we are already in relationship with across other program areas.
