Free Clinics - New Life Community Outreach
 
 
 
The goal of New Life Community Outreach (NLCO) is to strengthen our community and enhance the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors by providing material resources, healthcare, spiritual nourishment, and referrals to needed services in the community. We seek to provide an environment and manner that not only sustains life but also provides hope and opportunity for growth. Our free clinic enhances quality of life via the primary care and podiatry services that we offer. We are also in the process of developing a network of dentists to meet our goal of providing access to free and reduced cost dental services. Our goal is to recruit students and other volunteers so that we can make referrals and provide follow-up services for neighbors who are ready to take substantial steps toward moving out of poverty. NLCO seeks a VISTA Member to help us build an infrastructure to increase our ability to serve our clients in a more holistic manner, leading to increased chances of clients making lasting changes in their lives. As a result of our project, we expect that 40 people will make significant steps toward getting out of poverty, by becoming medication compliant, entering rehab for a substance abuse problem, starting school, getting a job or a better job, and moving from the streets into a shelter.

Member Duties : (1) Recruit, screen, and train volunteers for all aspects of service delivery, including writing job descriptions and developing recruitment and training materials. (2) Develop a client database to track who we serve and the impact of our work. (3) Increase funding by researching and developing more effective systems for cultivating current donors and new grant opportunities and developing a new fundraising event. (4) Reduce incidents of diabetes-related visits to the clinic by increasing access to and promoting healthier food options and researching and implementing a nutrition education curriculum for volunteers and clients.
