2017-18 Volunteer Iowa: Keokuk Workforce Development VISTA
 
 
 
The SET* Confluence Workforce Development VISTA member will work to increase awareness and utilization of workforce opportunities and trainings in the SET Confluence region (Lee County, Iowa, Clark County, Missouri and Hancock County, Illinois). This will be done by working with workforce development, educational institutions, economic development organizations, employers and potential employees. The VISTA member will be guided by a steering committee comprised of SET regional leaders representing the above organizations. This is a 3 step program: 1. VISTA member will develop a regional workforce opportunities guide containing resources with contact information 2. VISTA member will create and launch a comprehensive social media outreach and marketing program using the information collected in the workforce opportunities guide to increase awareness and utilization of workforce opportunities in and around the region. 3. VISTA member will work with service industry volunteers to create a hospitality training program that can be implemented in employee orientation and trainings. * SET (Stronger Economies Together) USDA Rural Development designation The VISTA will serve as a part of Volunteer Iowa's Rural Development and Opioid AmeriCorps VISTA project. Volunteer Iowa is a state agency whose mission is to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering. VISTA members with our program have the benefit of a statewide support network of staff, Commissioners, National Service Programs, fellow AmeriCorps members and a VISTA Leader. Members receive ongoing training, support, networking and professional development opportunities.

Member Duties : Attitude and general responsibilities • Self-starter and highly motivated • Good communicator with ability to conduct interviews • Consult with steering committee on ideas, issues or concerns, offering analysis and solutions whenever possible • Respect confidentiality of interviewees and colleagues • Report hours, travel (pre-approved) and monthly progress Program Leadership • Make connections with individuals and organization in the region to enhance program outreach and marketing Citizenship training and responsibilities • Participate in AmeriCorps training and events as required and requested by the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Services • Participate in professional development • Participate in community service activities Technology Skills • Proficient in Microsoft Office software including; Word, Excel and Power point • Experience with multiple social media platforms • Preferred experience with Publisher and/or InDesign
