Tribal Resilience Salt Lake City Housing Authoirity

The VISTA project will promote the development of culturally appropriate, environmentally responsible housing that is affordable to Native people and located in Salt Lake City, defined as providing housing in proximity to education, employment, cultural activities and social services. Throughout one year of service, a full time VISTA will work to build the sustainable operations for a Permanent Supportive Housing project. This project is working with Native American populations to develop and preserve their housing stock in a culturally resilient manner. Additionally, the VISTA will work to prepare staff and maintain funding for handling emergencies and ensuring resident safety. The overall goal is to increase the supply of affordable, culturally appropriate housing. The VISTA work will be done under the direction of the Housing Authority of Salt Lake City (HASLC), implementing the first ever partnership between the Urban Indian Center of Salt Lake and the HASLC to address a severe shortage of resources available to this population. Some of the responsibilities for the VISTA include; identifying grant opportunities to fund services and assist with grant writing, build capacity to implement a 30-40 unit Low Income Housing Tax Credit project, work with HASLC and partners to set up, manage and document development team meetings, compile a list of common goals, Coordinate strategic meetings with local homeless services and housing groups, create an outline/action plan including dates for completion and who is the project lead, Assist HASLC and partners in drafting needed documents such as tenant selection plans, prepare reports based on meeting and listening sessions with recommendations regarding housing and service strategies.
