2018-19 Volunteer Iowa: DCDC Workforce Enrichment VISTA
 
 
 
The Decatur County Development Corporation (DCDC) is the economic development entity that serves Decatur County, Iowa. Our role is to inspire economic growth among the businesses and community members that thrive here. The DCDC VISTA member will create, organize and deliver enrichment activities for students in all three county school districts; engage land and building owners in listing their property to be available for business expansion and recruitment; recruit new volunteers to support new DCDC activities and become part of a county-wide volunteer network (TimeBanking); and create materials to help recruit new donors to fund ongoing support for these activities. By serving students, business owners and residents in the poorest county in Iowa, the VISTA will help implement programs that directly combat poverty, and help others learn how to deal with poverty. The VISTA will serve as a part of Volunteer Iowa's Rural Development and Opioid AmeriCorps VISTA project. Volunteer Iowa is a state agency whose mission is to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering. VISTA members with our program have the benefit of a statewide support network of staff, Commissioners, National Service Programs, fellow AmeriCorps members and a VISTA Leader. Members receive ongoing training, support, networking and professional development opportunities.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will engage in activities including: -Work with school staff and teachers to plan enrichment activities. -Set up a schedule with students for operating the student incubator, and recruit and manage volunteers to staff the incubator. -Perform updates to the DCDC website as needed. -Create fundraising marketing materials (e.g. brochures, letters, website content, videos, photos, etc.) and assist the DCDC Executive Director and Board of Directors in scheduling fundraising meetings with potential donors. -Create a template and content for an email newsletter. -Create a map of available property and property information to be used by DCDC staff in business recruitment. -Liaison with Lamoni TimeBanking members and database programmers to expand this program to cover Decatur County.
