A Nutrition Program Coordinator VISTA

The Indy Hunger Network (IHN) is a collaborative organization made up of non-profit and corporate partners working on hunger relief in the Greater Indianapolis area. IHN’s three focus areas are nutrition, access, and sustainability of the food supply in our community. Many people experiencing food insecurity are not aware of the resources available to help them access healthy food. IHN is working on several projects to help people facing food insecurity connect with resources. Projects include developing a system of navigators to provide one-on-one assistance with accessing food resources; helping to market The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) to reach more moms and kids; working with a low-income health clinic to reduce food insecurity in infants and their parents; collecting data on SNAP participation rates and changes over time; and working with small food pantries to implement best practices. The VISTA will have the opportunity to build an extensive network, gain valuable professional experience, and gain a deep understanding of both public and private agencies, while helping the Indy Hunger Network achieve its goal to create a system that ensures anyone who is hungry can access the nutritious food they need.
