The South Cumberland Community Fund-University of the South (Sewanee) have partnered to offer a unique Community-University South Cumberland Plateau VISTA Project (SCPVP). This project is a full-time, one year, post-graduate service program in which 19 VISTA volunteers will work with the University at distinct agencies to help build and implement programs designed to improve health, economic well being and reading and literary. We are currently seeking 4 VISTA members to join our dynamic team. The Farm Communications Coordinator will work with the University of the South Farm to develop marketing and outreach materials for the farm to provide resources to farm visitors and local growers. The Speciality Crop Economic Development Coordinator will serve with the University Farm to establish a network of local growers to produce teas and spices to be sold at market. The Food Insecurity and Literacy Coordinator will parter with the University of the South Dining and community volunteers to coordinate the third year of a free summer meal program for kids and teens. This position will also work with the University Office of Civic Engagement to develop literacy programs for the Grundy County School system. SCPVP provides professional development training to enhance each VISTA member’s personal and professional development, including community organizing, grant writing, volunteer recruitment, and sustainability. In addition to providing invaluable professional experience in health education, food insecurity, early childhood education, economic development or and grant writing, this VISTA program is team focused, providing group programming, support, and social opportunities for each VISTA.
