Statewide Behavioral Health Family Support Specialist VISTA

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://go.usa.gov/cnayh. The Child and Family Behavioral Health Unit in Integrated Health Systems administers grants and contracts to meet the mental health and addiction concerns of children aged 0-25, and their families. The goal is to have available, accessible and effective statewide services. The unit strives to increase access to Medicaid, low-cost or free behavioral health services, since earliest intervention is most likely to increase a child’s gain in school and health and employment in adulthood. With access to services and self-help skills, parents are more likely to effectively care for their own children and sustain employment and health for themselves. The VISTA member will be one of two VISTAs serving with the Behavioral Health Systems Unit in Salem, the capital of Oregon. The Child & Behavioral Health Unit is a fun and diverse team of 10 within a building of over 300 state employees. The office is walking distance to Willamette University, all state office buildings and the center for public transportation. With farmer’s markets twice a week, plenty of parks and loads of free music venues, Salem is a livable city, on VISTA salary, and only an hour from Portland, a major entertainment hub. Centrally located in the Willamette Valley, Salem is rich with culture and has easy access hiking and other outdoor adventures in every direct. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Salem is wonderful place to explore a future in public health.
