Team Leader
The mission of the VYCC is to teach young people personal responsibility through meaningful work that connects us to the land, community, and one another. To instill these skills and values, VYCC enrolls young people in paid work opportunities. Our model is strong and simple: Youth Corps Members work together in small groups, guided by highly trained leaders, to complete high priority projects in conservation and agriculture. Headquartered in the center of Vermont on historic farmland in the foothills of the Green Mountains, we apply this crew model by employing youth and their leaders in important hunger relief, sustainable agriculture, trail construction and other public land maintenance and upkeep projects. As such the VYCC engages Youth Corps Members, leaders and the community in placed-based development projects that connect Vermont’s youth to their state and fellow citizens.

Member Duties : VYCC Team Leaders work alongside Corps Members performing direct service. They serve as a role model and provide guidance, support and on the spot assistance to Youth Corps Members. They offer training and teach their Corps members about the conservation and or agriculture project at hand as well as lead personal and professional development activities. Special attention is paid to topics such as work habits and behaviors; technical skills development; group dynamics; communication; civic engagement; and personal nutrition & finance. The Team Leader’s primary focus and responsibility is to Youth Corps Members as they participate in VYCC projects. This is also a unique opportunity to gain hands on experience and knowledge about farming, food systems, and conservation work in Vermont.
