AZ Refugee Resettlement - Refugee School Impact

The Arizona Refugee Resettlement Program (RRP) VISTA Project’s mission is to support refugees’ effective resettlement in Arizona. The integration of refugee children into American schools is one of the many challenges that refugee families face upon arrival in the US. The goal of the VISTA member is to develop and enhance educational supportive services for refugee families and youth to ease this integration. The VISTA will work towards enhancing parental involvement and student academics through collaboration with schools; including providing professional development trainings to support schools in working with this population. The project addresses many refugee needs including; school integration for newly arrived refugee students through academic support and tutoring; equipping schools and communities to better serve the refugee population; and helping refugee students and families successfully navigate the schools and communities in which they reside. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills and an interest and experience in youth programs, community outreach, primary research, and refugee issues.
