A Development Transformation VISTA

Indiana’s largest food bank, serving approximately one third of Indiana’s food insecure across 21 counties that include metro Indianapolis, is dramatically growing its development team in a strategic, transformative way. That transformation includes doubling the staff, selecting and implementing software and hardware upgrades and transforming communication strategies with donors, other community resource partners and the organization’s overall outreach. A creative, innovative resource is needed to manage a series of one-time mini-projects associated with periods of peak activity impacting all aspects of that transformation. This VISTA project supports the second largest food bank facility in the U.S. and one of the largest charities in Indiana, with a staff of 70 leveraging resources from more than 20,000 donors and more than 32,000 volunteers per year, to provide at least 25 million meals per year thru hundreds of mobile pantries, 236 local food pantries, 54 school-based pantries and 245 school BackSack locations. The food bank is part of multiple hunger relief and social service collaborations, providing the VISTA with a unique mix of learning and career exploration opportunities when combined with the food bank’s industry-leading programs and activities. The VISTA will report to the CEO in terms of overall guidance, but receive day-to-day guidance on each individual project from a designated organization leader. These separate projects may have some overlap, but are intended to be sequential.
