A Nutrition Enhancement & Sustainability VISTA

Indiana’s largest food bank, serving approximately one third of Indiana’s food insecure across 21 counties that include metro Indianapolis, is dramatically enhancing its nutrition initiative in a strategic, transformative way. That transformation includes enhancing the nutritional programming at Community Cupboard, our Pantry Partners (larger capacity food pantries), CARE mobile pantries (pantry on wheels model with Indianapolis public safety partnership), and school-based pantries (food pantries in a school or school corporation). A creative, innovative resource is needed to manage these projects which will be offered within various food distribution models. This VISTA project supports the second largest food bank facility in the U.S. and one of the largest charities in Indiana, with a staff of 70 leveraging resources from more than 500 partners to provide at least 25 million meals per year through the “right-place at the right-time to the right person” food distribution model. The food bank is part of multiple hunger relief and social service collaborations, providing the VISTA with a unique mix of learning and career exploration opportunities when combined with the food bank’s industry-leading programs and activities. The VISTA will report to the Director of Agency Relations but will work in conjunction with individuals managing or coordinating the different program models.
