Neighbor Network

Douglas County, Colorado has one of the nation's fastest growing older adult populations in the country. By 2030, it is estimated that one in four residents will be age 60 or older, and many of these seniors find that they do not have access to the services they need to continue to live safely and comfortably in their homes and communities. The programs offered by Neighbor Network (NN) extend throughout the entire county - rural and populous alike. Most clients live alone and may not have the resources to pay for transportation or other supportive services. Many seniors would be forced to move prematurely into assisted living if NN were no longer available to them. The programs and services we offer to members promote quality of life; when you are just living to go to your next medical appointment, spirits can become dark. We want our seniors not just to survive; we want them to thrive! Volunteer drivers take seniors not only to crucial medical appointments and grocery stores but the movies, hair salon or to visit loved ones. Our drivers provide trips to senior centers, banks, and other local errands. Volunteer companions provide one-to-one friendly visits, phone calls, and support to isolated members. Handyman and home maintenance volunteers keep seniors safe in their homes by installing grab bars, wheelchair ramps and performing other light duties that are difficult for older members to handle. Volunteer Homemakers provide light housekeeping services, such as laundry, vacuuming and changing out bed linens. Grocery shopping and cooking meals are offered to older members who are recovering from surgery or facing other factors that impact their mobility. In the spring, NN also partners with local churches to provide a week-long yard cleaning and spruce-up event. With the volunteer help, chores are getting done; seniors are avoiding injury and citations from their Homeowners Associations. Because of NN, seniors are staying in their homes longer.
