*MTCC AmeriCorps Team Member- spectrUM Discovery Area

The spectrUM Discovery Area provides hands-on science education opportunities which promote a culture of learning and discovery for all, with the ultimate goal of inspiring young Montanans to pursue higher education and possibly careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The members will serve as a role models to the High School Explainers while they grow their science and education capabilities. They will provide hands-on science activities for at least 25 preschool to 8th grade youth per month through spectrUM programs, such as public hours, clubs, camps, and outreach activities. Provide opportunities for youth attending spectrUM programs to meet with and interact with role models from the University of Montana and affiliates in the community and will mentor high school students at the spectrUM Discovery Area.

Member Duties : The spectrUM AmeriCorps Team Members will engage preschool-8th grade youth in hands-on science activities at spectrUM Discovery Area and through spectrUM’s clubs, camps, and outreach programs. They will provide high-quality science education through the use of interactive exhibits, activities, and demonstrations. The spectrUM Science Educator will serve as a role model to the High School Explainers while they grow their science and education capabilities and provide opportunities for youth attending spectrUM programs to meet with and interact with role models from the university and community to encourage college going.
