Shelter Resource Coordinator- Human Solutions (Portland, OR)
 
 
 
Human Solutions, located in Portland, Oregon, creates pathways out of poverty by providing emergency shelter, employment, housing, eviction prevention, and resident services programs. Our community is located in the heart of urban East Multnomah County where the highest rate of poverty is. The VISTA member placed at our agency by assisting in Shelter Resource and Services Access a program that links vital services to families experiencing homelessness. AmeriCorps VISTA members perform only indirect service; interaction with clients will be limited and the member will spend the majority of his or her time in an office setting. However, the Human Solutions VISTA will play a dynamic role in ending poverty by identifying and coordinating services and resources for families living at a shelter that houses on average over 130 people per night; organizing regular resource or services fairs; creating and streamlining better data collection and reporting systems; coordinating donations. As a Human Solutions VISTA you will be part of a cohort coordinated by Mercy Corps Northwest. Early applications strongly encouraged. Selections made on a rolling basis.

Member Duties : As a VISTA member at Human Solutions you will help end poverty by coordinating access to services and resources for homeless families. Major functions will include communicating with external entities to provide resources and services such as Mental Health, OHP and benefits assistance, Clothing, Educational Enrichment, or WIC services. Organizing resource fairs to build assets, and coordinate some donations. Streamlining data collection and reporting processes with permanent staff. VISTAs serve their communities through indirect service. While programs you develop will endure for years, you will have limited interaction with our residents. Applicant should hold a four year degree in social work, or four years of relevant work experience, or a combination thereof. The applicant should possess outgoing communication skills, and an understanding of poverty and trauma. The applicant should have experience with resource development and working on a team in stressful situations.
