UCF VISTA Project- Goodwill Employment Specialist
 
 
 
The VISTA project will address the poverty needs in the Central Florida community through capacity building. Our goal is to use AmeriCorps VISTA as a platform for addressing several concerns: (1) increasing low income student access to education by creating capacity to remove barriers (2) creating capacity to decreasing barriers for veterans and job obtainment (3) increasing volunteerism around poverty needs throughout the Central Florida Region (4) intentional support The Franklin Project and Serve a Year national programs of increasing volunteerism through national service initiatives.

Member Duties : This VISTA will work as an employment specialist for Goodwill Industries of Central Florida and will specifically work with the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program. The purpose of the Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program (HVRP) is to provide services to assist in reintegrating homeless Veterans into meaningful employment within the labor force. Our goal is to assist the people we serve in gaining marketable skills so that they can increase their earning potential while building a better trained higher quality, and more educated workforce. HVRP intends to accomplish this by locating short-term training programs and employment opportunities that can increase the average wage and placement of our clients. The VISTA will help Goodwill increase their outreach efforts to employers and educational institutions that will provide the most opportunities for our participants.
