OSMRE Appalachian Region VISTA Leader

One of Community Stewards’ signature initiatives is to place AmeriCorps VISTA members with organizations working to mitigate the long term impacts of pre-regulatory mining on the economy and the ecology in Appalachian coal country and in Western hardrock mining areas. The Community Stewards Appalachian Region VISTA Leader supports VISTAs serving throughout Appalachia, a part of the larger OSMRE/VISTA Initiative. Serving as a Community Stewards VISTA leader is a unique and exciting opportunity to meet and work with a diverse group of people from non-profit, educational, and government sectors of society, and broaden one’s understanding of America's communities, organizations, and landscapes. Additionally, VISTA Leaders will have the opportunity to be engaged with exciting regionally based projects that address issues such as food security, climate change resilience, and legacy mining impacts. AmeriCorps VISTAs, AmeriCorps State and National members, and Peace Corps volunteers who have completed one year of service are eligible for the position. Community Stewards is part of a larger organization, called BRIDGE Network, launched as the individual placement program of Conservation Legacy. BRIDGE Network operates both Community Stewards and Environmental Stewards, which spearhead several initiatives including OSMRE/VISTA, DOI/VISTA, and TCU/VISTA, successfully placing over 400 AmeriCorps State and National and VISTA members across the U.S. and territories. We strive to create a better future for people and for the environment by supporting and investing in the next generation of leaders. As a Community Stewards VISTA Leader you will be part of a larger national organization that takes a multifaceted approach to engaging youth, alleviating poverty, and addressing environmental issues.
