Kids At Their Best VISTA Project Milestones

Kids At Their Best (KATB) has three main components to their mission – Leadership, Enrichment and Nutrition. Based in one of the leading counties for childhood poverty, our rural setting has unique challenges to providing services; transportation, language barriers and limited economic growth are all hurdles we face. Our approach is unique, we are entirely mobile. We go directly to the neighborhoods and communities with the highest rates of childhood poverty and provide our services with the help of local partners. Last year KATB partnered with over 20 different organizations to provide enrichment. TNT Leadership exposes children 12 and older to leadership styles and gives them the opportunity to engage in activities that showcase their leadership skills. These teens also run a mobile pantry program that provides monthly food distributions to needy communities. Summer Meals and Enrichment serves over 300 students annually through a daily, six week program focusing on STEAM and decreasing the rate of summer time learning loss among high poverty children. Additional activities include; public speaking, fitness/boxing, family literacy, homework assistance and community projects. KATB provides low income students with a safe place to be and a nurturing environment that allows them to grow and succeed.
