Center For Family Services (CFS) is a large and exciting nonprofit human services agency based in Camden City, NJ. Center For Family Services has been a force for positive change since 1920, and offers more than 70 programs. Whether it is a child who is ready for preschool or a teen without a safe place to call home, we are dedicated to help. Our goal is to break the cycle of poverty, violence, trauma, and addiction and help people to overcome obstacles, to find comfort, and to build the foundation for a successful future. In order for us to continue to do this, we need your help. As the Literacy and Education VISTA, you will serve as a champion for early childhood education, increasing community investment in school readiness initiatives and expanding volunteerism and parent engagement. You will share your passion for education through community outreach and the development of a team of volunteers committed to improving outcomes for children ages 0-8. This exciting position will provide the opportunity to build working relationships with staff, community members, and stakeholders to increase literacy, attendance, kindergarten readiness, and academic success for Camden City students. Member Duties : As the Literacy and Education VISTA, you will: 1) Review school readiness and literacy trends in Camden Promise Zone; 2) Increase parent engagement in students’ education for the 0-8 population; 3) Cultivate relationships with Promise Zone partners; 4) Expand school readiness initiatives in the Camden City School District; 5) Develop methods to engage more parents and community members as Born to Read volunteers; 6) Recruit, train, and manage volunteers in Head Start and District classrooms; 7) Identify new partners to provide monetary, in-kind, and volunteer support. You will play an integral role in improving academic outcomes for children in Camden City, focusing on increasing literacy, improving attendance, ensuring kindergarten readiness, and strengthening parent & community involvement. This position requires pre-service drug screening and criminal background checks.
