VCC AmeriCorps College Advisor/Mentor - Castleton University

This position is part of The Vermont Campus Compact (VCC) AmeriCorps Pathways Program, hosted by the Vermont Higher Education Council (VHEC). VCC AmeriCorps is a state-wide AmeriCorps program designed to partner with college campuses and community partners across Vermont in order to A) increase college aspirations and readiness among low-income and rural youth, and B) increase college persistence, retention, and success among first-generation and otherwise underrepresented college students. Overview of Upward Bound: Upward Bound is a federally funded college preparation program designed to encourage students to develop the academic skills and motivation necessary for success in post-secondary education. The program focuses on providing equal opportunity for students who would be the first in their respective families to obtain a college degree but because of income level or other disadvantages may not continue their education. Upward Bound serves students in grades 9-12 and is a part of the Academic Support Center at Castleton University. Goal for College Advisor/Mentor: To provide students with guidance that will aid in their success in high school and college, such as choosing the right classes in high school, meeting high school graduation requirements, searching for colleges, major and career advising, mentoring on college life, and creating challenging environments that encourage students to learn, share, question, and grow.
